Keeping 'Good Old Days' Alive...
It's another buses-cancelled day so no kiddos for childcare...Leaving some extra opportunity to practice what I poem 😅💕
Pour a second cup, dark umber
Because I start and finish with the same stanza this poem can be read from the top down or bottom up!
Put a kettle on to simmerWatch flame-dancers twist and jiveLet the simple joys of winterKeep the good, old days alive
Ease the angst of hurried lunch-breaksLike a sabbath middle-dayCount the stars that fall in snowflakesWake the child that lost its way
Watch the birds without vain frettingAbout what we cannot knowHe who feeds sparrows is settingTomorrow’s ducks in a row
Let prudence and leisure mingleHome-sweet-domesticityWhile chores, books and gales rekindleGood old days waiting to be
Pour a second cup, dark umberIt is winter. Sit and nodSweat and toil of summer slumberAching feet rest, slipper-shod
Taste a bit ‘o Brit traditionHave a biscuit with your teaSometimes happiness is hiddenIn plain-sight-simplicity
Let nature nourish and gladdenGather barren branch bouquetsPlant a bowl-sized indoor gardenLet winter thrill and amaze
Make music with moment measureShake a fist at sparrow-hawkPractice culinary pleasureDo not haste the hungry clock
Crosswords, puzzles, scrabble, kittensPaint a pic with poem-inkDon a parka, hat and mittensLet frost kisses turn cheeks pink
Savor winter’s favors slowlyLet its flavors steep each senseWith thanksgiving, meek and holyDrink in argent ambience
Put a kettle on to simmerWatch flame-dancers twist and jiveLet the simple joys of winterKeep the good, old days alive
