Celestial Reveille
Some mornings I feel drawn from my bed as if by a celestial! Today flickers upon a wick where dawn flings shutters wideLive/love well before its candlestick is snuffed by eventide
Today is another shivery offering!I think everyone is winter-coat weary!Even the daffodils look a little forlorn, slumped against the morning chill
The maple-blossoms seem to cringe as the bud breaks and nudges them from its nest...
But, before today is brushed from Time's slatewe have an opportunity to make the best and most of it!Thank-you, Lord!
Ah, who knows what today will bringBefore it folds its gilded wingOver a world surrenderingTo the tug of dusk’s evening starWhere now dawn’s coffers overflowWith fresh offers of joy and woeAnd God’s kind grace, whereby we goNo matter where or who we are
Beneath the diligence of clocksTime’s tutelage of ticks and tocksStartles its students with hard knocksOffset by spring's welcome delights While the grave gapes, we brave the dayRife with life’s constant come-what-mayWhere rivers run and children playAnd buds burst with gold, pinks and whites
Ah, who knows, as dawn’s tent is pitchedWhat will be tested, torn or stitchedWill hearts be broken or bewitchedBefore dusk tucks to historyThe echo of a pirouetteWe have not touched or tasted yetBut soon will be forever setIn Bygone’s soldered gallery
Then dream and dance and work and playAnd make the most of moment-frayAnd don’t you dare forget to prayAnd laugh and learn and love and singIn spite of brutal fist-a-cuffsCome, brave this newborn day becauseDusk is the douter that soon snuffsLifetimes beneath its gilded wing
Don't miss the music as it spillsFrom vaults unveiling vales and hillsA pilgrimage through daffodilsAnd mercy's myriadWhere we do not embark aloneInto the darkness of UnknownBut by God's kindness we are shownThe way to rejoice and be glad

somehow painting and poetry don't mix the best...This morning was a see-saw of poem, patching holes, sanding, pegging a bit more poem, priming patches, and morning poem has turned to noon poem!
