Of Glorious Winter-tide
This week its the snow!!!
The other week the ice left us speechless with awe!!
Now is the time of cheerOf cozy countrysideTucked beneath white starlight veneerOr the veil of a bride
Now is the time to pauseFrom plant and harvest toilWhile earth receives the wild applauseOf gales and sparkle-spoil
Of snowflakes swirling roundIn dizzying descentUntil the land is grandly crownedWith frosty filament
Now is the time to ling--ger longer in a bookAnd let the days of winter bringThe days summer forsook
Of bowers bent with leafOf flower-befringed walksOf glad tidings of golden sheafOf rose and hollyhocks
Of looking back to whereWe find ourselves todayBefore we turn agape to stareAt worlds melted away
Where now is the sweet timeTo slow our hasting strideAnd revel in the crystal climeOf glorious winter-tide
...as we combat the coldThat keens our appetiteWith supper hour dipped in gold Of gentle candle-light © Janet Martin
