IT Is What IT Is...

We enjoyed celebrating Jim's 60th birthday yesterday... Sometimes we say ‘IT is what IT is’With morose resignationAs if IT held no promisesWorthy of celebration As if IT didn’t burst from budsIn petal-wild profusionOr drench June worlds in purple floodsOf wild phlox absolution As if IT did not overflowWith mercies, new each morningOr leave a Light in the windowFor a loved one returning Or bake a birthday cake or pieOr scatter summer showersLike silver laughter from the skyTo quench the thirst of flowers Or weave, where winsome echoes waftFair scenes, love fondly missesOr, for each hard knock, a sweet, softMemento warm with kisses Or, strew in the blue wake of yearsGrace, green with spring’s caressingAs if IT did not dry our tearsAnd cheer us with fresh blessing As if IT didn’t steal our breathWith thankful exclamationBecause God made a way so deathIs no vague destination As if IT offered nothing moreThan doleful growing-olderNo picnics, gardens or seashoreNo  friend-to-lean-on shoulder As if ‘ IT is what IT is’ wasA sorry state of guessesRather than love’s thundering applauseFor all IT’s happiness-es Rather than Time's unsullied pageWhen a new day is breakingAs if IT did not set the stageFor memories-in-the-making © Janet Martin Our grandchildren were SO excited to give him theirsilly cards so we could all laugh 😂💝 A fantastic cover of Alan Jackson's song The Older I Get 💓 Ps.71:8-9 My mouth is filled with Your praiseand with Your splendor all day long. Do not discard me in my old age;do not forsake me when my strength fails.
