I Love a Life of Simple Joys or April Awe
One of my favorite spring-highlights is unfolding...maple tree buds
I love a life of simple joysCup o’ chamomile teaLaughter of April afternoonTrickling through lace-graced treeThe tender tug of budded luresSoft wafting overheadStarred dark where dreams embark beforeWe are asleep in bed
I love the color of surpriseThe violet stars that fallTo dapple dells and spark swells ofSheer wonder-of-it-allThe innocence of child and pupThe flower-bowl of earthCrowned with the perfect hue of blueThe merriment of mirth
Roused by the way the day beginsAs heaven overflowsAnd mercy brims into hymns ofCoral, purple and roseAnd as if this was not enoughBird song that rings and ringsAnd rouses from awe-humbled heartsJoy for life’s simple things
I love the way spring makes us gladFrom our head to our toesLike a firm handshake that can makeUs smile in spite of woesThe way that April woos the landWith kisses fit for kingsAnd wakens us to worlds unfurledWith wealth of simple things
I love a life of simple joysDimple in chubby cheekOf baby boy or girl, a curlTo tease, a chin to tweakA little plot to teach a totWho makes the garden growAnd how the seeds we plant can't hideAnd we reap what we sow
I love the way a warm helloMakes worth the farewell tearHow grief is the brute fruit of loveYet oh, so very dearIf I could ask for anythingT'would not be stuff or toysBut just a humble plea to see Life, rife with simple joys
