Behold, The Hour Is Come (Good Friday Meditation)
When Jesus had spoken these things, He lifted up His eyes to heaven and said, “Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son may glorify You.
Behold, the hour is comeFor God would not withdrawThe Cornerstone of Christendom;the cross confounds the lawAs Deity and dustIn holy horror meetAs the unjust condemns the JustThe King who washes feet!
The hour of love's planSummons salvation's costThe gaping void twixt God and manWill be forever crossedBridged by a cross that bore Power's grisly showdown;Love's bleating/bleeding Lamb, and Lion's roarDeath's verdict and Life's Crown
Behold, His blood runs rifeRedemption is not freeThe Son of God lays down His life To ransom you and meSinless, He becomes sinHis agony completeAnd though it seems that death will winHis death is not defeat...
...behold, love's miseryThe suffering Saviour cries(For all who were, are and will be)'It is finished' and diesAnd in the crashing gloomThe temple's veil is tornFinal breath rends the cross-shaped WombEternal life is born
Behold the hour is comeFor all to kneel and prayThe Cornerstone of ChristendomWashes our guilt awayBehold, the Son of GodTriumph misunderstoodThe silence of the grave's façade Resurrection's prelude

John 19:28-30Later, knowing that everything had now been finished, and so that Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said, “I am thirsty.” 29 A jar of wine vinegar was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and lifted it to Jesus’ lips. 30 When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.
